The Harvest

This is a crucial stage of the production. A full year of work and worries comes to an end and it is a much awaited moment. The picking of the grapes is scheduled to ensure full maturation of the fruit but it is essential to avoid the rain characteristic of the region. In this respect Quinta da Penseira has an advantage because maturity is attained earlier than in the rest of the region. The maturation control performed during the maturation season is fundamental and grapes of all the varieties are collected and analysed several times during the cycle in the laboratory of the winery. During the picking, the grapes arrive to the winery in plastic boxes of 25 Kg and before crushing are sorted in order to remove foreign material such as leaves and eventually any rotten material.
