Quinta da Penseira S.A.

The Quinta da Penseira presently has 4ha, renovated in 1997 with the red varieties recommended for the region (Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Roriz e Jaen). In the restructuration a high plantation density was chosen (6666 plant/ha) with plants each 1,5x1,0 meters. This plantation scheme was once popular in the Dão Region and in other famous wine producing regions of Europe.
The vineyard faces south and is oriented in the Eastern-Western direction. This was chosen to avoid the erosion which could result from the steep slope in which the vineyard is planted. As for the training of the plants a long pruning was chosen (double Guyot). All the operations are done by specialized equipment except for the pruning and harvest.
